Euxton meaning "Farmstead of a man called Aefic". In early times Euxton was forest like, with gentle undulating hills and meandering rivers. Euxton came into existence due to it's excellent position. It was found along a major North South pack road during the Middle Ages (currently Wigan Road), and also an Important Roman highway running from Wigan to Walton-le-dale.

The oldest building in the area is the Parish church St Marys (main photo) and was constructed in the 14th century Euxton had a very lively milling industry, with evidence still viable along the River Yarrow.
