| History | ||||||||||||
Around the year 1800, Coppull was a small agricultural area with very few facilities. Coppull prospered and then began to grow rapidly. Mining became the main occupation, Coppull Hall Colliery had a major disaster in 1850, when 36 men lost their lives. The textile industry was also important in Coppull, the now famous Coppull Ring Mill was built here in which many locals worked.
|
Many homes were built to house the workers at the mills and the mines, and the town expanded quickly. Now the mines and the mills have been closed, but the village continues to expand. This spinning mill is a land mark which can be seen from some miles away. After the death of the textile industry it became unused until in 1980 when it was converted into the Coppull Enterprise Center which now houses many small thriving businesses.
